Rules of the 1st World Championship on Darts of the Deafblind
General information for Darts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darts
Because of the specific character of the Darts game, only the deafblind participants from category „residual vision“ can play darts and participate in the 1st World Championship on Darts of the Deafblind.
Each of them will be held according to the rule 3.1. in categories:
Thus there will be 2 different individual rankings:
Darts – women: ...............................
Darts – men: ...............................
The “age – how many years old on 2016” is declared in the “List of participants” form. Each abovementioned entry list (collected from NADbBg from all participants) could be divided additionally from NADbBg by age evenly on 2 lists on 2 age groups – each of the list received must be at least 3 – 4 competitors or more (see rule 3.1.).
Darts equipment: Dartboard with size 45 cm outer diameter (this is a competitive size dartboard) and with big white numbers on black outer “zero point” area.
Darts: 3 darts are needed. The player can use his own darts set, otherwise he will receive darts from the referee.
Playing Dimensions: The World Darts Federation (WDF) uses the following standards for play:
Height - The dart board is hung so that the center of the bulls eye is 5ft 8in (1.73 m) from the floor. This is considered eye-level for a six foot man.
Distance - The “Ochie” (pronounced “okkey”)- the name of the throwing line - should be 7ft 9,25in (2.37 m) from the face of the board. Note that this is the face of the board, and should not include the distance to the wall (if the board protrudes from the wall)
Background Pad around dartboard: The background pad has a purpose to protect stone, brick or concrete wall from scratching and darts from breaking. The pad is made from soft material (soft wood, Styrofoam, XPS, soft fiberboard) and to oversize dartboard at least 50 cm in each direction. It can be colored in yellow to give more contrast to the black outer area of the dartboard.
On the floor below dartboard is placed other soft pad that prevents ricochet darts to damage floor and to break darts.
OBLIGATORY KEEPINGS SAFETY
Warning! The darts are steel, sharp and heavy, and can be very dangerous and fatal if hit someone!!!
SAFETY RULES:
Two players give theirs darts sets (3 darts each) to the referee who only keeps it during game. The referee gives the darts set to the player when his turn comes. Only the referee can collect the darts from dartboard. The player throws only when he receives a signal for throwing from the referee. The referee gives signal for throwing when he is sure that no one stands between player and dartboard and in dangerous area 2 meters in left and 2 meters in right, and no one does not enters in dangerous area simultaneously. In that time the referee stays near to the player during throwing and outside of dangerous area. When at the hall there are several dartboards, there are placed at minimum 4 m distance between each other.
Competition rules:
There will be used competition rules of World Darts Federation (WDF) for the game “301” but some adapted to capabilities of the deafblind persons with residual vision.
Two players - one player against another which is known as “Singles”. The match is limited to 1 leg for accessibility. Players throw alternately. A “Throw” consists of “3″ darts which the player throws consequentially. Each of them starts with 301 points in “Straight start” - no double required to start. Each player can begin to score points immediately with the first dart thrown. The object is to score down to zero as quickly as possible. When someone reaches zero with accuracy, he is the winner of the leg and of the game. If a player completes the “Leg” in less than three darts the remaining dart or darts are not thrown.
More details on: http://www.dartswdf.com/basicsofdarts/
Access to information: The referee calls by voice on English and Bulgarian the points on each dart in purpose to give information to the deafblind for the sector hit. He calls the points and if there are double or triple. For example: 10 double, 5 triple. He calls the total score and the points rest. The interpreter transmits the information to the player.
Adaptations of the rules: Deafblind players not need to hit double to finish the leg, and only to reach zero when hit the accurate points remaining to zero (in the same final you may need to hit 1 to score zero). Points that are over remaining score cannot be used and the turn goes to another player.
Limitation of too long time leg: If the leg takes too much time (the players threw many times but their score has no change for many throws), the referee has a right to announce final limited number of throws and when the final limited number is completed, the winner is the player who is more near to zero.
Strategy of the game: Leading is the accuracy of hitting and assessment of the situation: at the beginning of the leg, the player should strive to hitting the sectors with the most points: at the upper end of the dartboard: 20 and 18, etc., in the lower end of the dartboard: 19 and 17, etc., if it is possible you can score more by hitting a segments for doubling or tripling. This will enable faster to reduce your rest points.
At the end of the game, the player seeks to hits sectors with numbers that can do exact zeroing. Finally you may have to hit sector 3, sector 2 and sector 1 on the same final.
Competition of many players: When several singles (playing couples) participated they play matches simultaneously and several dartboards will be placed in the hall. It is allowed the initial number of participants to be even or odd, and the referee draws up specific scheme as appropriate. Each player pulls a number, as the contestants with two adjacent consecutive numbers play together (№ 1 with № 2; № 3 with № 4, etc.). The winners of the first round then play in subsequent rounds by knockout system, the semi-finals, finals and ranking.
Note: Further we can send more detail rules after its discussion with the Head of the championship.
