Rules of the 1st World Bowling Championship of the Deafblind

Specific rules for the persons with deafblindness:

Categories:

• by gender: women, men;
• by sight: totally blind, residual vision 

The sighted guides show where the throwing and/or starting point is. The sighted guides assisted the totally blind and players with residual vision.  
The sighted guides work as well as interpreters or sighted assistants, inform the deafblind participants for the scores from the screens, and inform them for ID numbers of pins knocked down, for the way of pulling down, and for the ID numbers of the remaining upright pins; in purpose the bowlers could to correct his throwing.

Totally blind players will bowl alone in their own lane. Totally blind player obligatory bowls blindfolded and he is assisted from sighted guide. Blindfolds are given from organizers.

Residual vision players bowl up to 2 competitors on a same lane. They are not blindfolded and can be assisted from sighted guide.

There will be 6 games for 2,5 hours. In dependence of the number of bowlers there can be a second round with another 6 games for final ranking.

If wanted, it is possible to have pair bowling competition at the same time.
Then it will be informed beforehand who are the pairs in the pair competition and their scores will be counted together from individual scores. A pair can be a man and a woman.

The throwing technique:
Bowlers have the right to throw with hand / hands that they prefer – right, left or with both hands.
Bowlers are free to use the bowling technique that they prefer – also they are free to deliver with making some steps (4 steps) forward on the approach to reach some velocity; or they are free to deliver without any steps on approach (standing delivery).
Because the sighted guidance is being used, deafblind bowlers are aligned on the approach by sighted assistants before their deliveries. The bowlers would normally be aligned on a spot which they wish to execute their deliveries. Such a reference point may be a certain board on the approach. The bowler can determine whether the ball must be released in the center of the lane or near one edge.

Individual Ranking

Will be held according to the rule 3.1. in categories applied all together:

• by gender (woman, man);
• by sight: (totally blind and residual vision – in track-and-field athletics, bowling and darts)

Important: a deafblind person has a right to register in different category by sight on different championships: for example as “totally blind” in outdoor bright sunlight (on track-and-field athletics) but as “residual vision” in indoor with specific lighting (on bowling).

• by age: (two age groups distributed evenly in each particular entry list) – in physical competitions, like darts, arm wrestling, bowling,  track-and-field athletics). Each physical competitor must declare his/her age (how many years old) for year 2016 – please fill your age in form “List of participants” – see rule 10, item 2).

According to the rule 3.1., If there are 4 or more entries from each gender in every sight category
„totally blind“ and in „residual vision“ there in a sight category will be 2 separate individual rankings: individual ranking for women and individual ranking for men:

• Bowling – women - totally blind
• Bowling – men - totally blind
• Bowling – women - residual vision
• Bowling – men - residual vision

Otherwise there will be one common individual ranking: women + men in a vision category:

• Bowling - women + men - totally blind
• Bowling - women + men - residual vision

In this case women receive additional points for “handicap” in order to be at equal position with men.

Team Ranking
Forming of national teams and/or combined teams according to rule 3.2.

Awarding:
Awarding in the individual ranking and in the team ranking according to the rule 4.
